Oil light issue
Hello. I have a 2018 Hyundai Sonata se less than 50k miles and got it last year. When I got my first oil change with the vehicle I noticed the same day the red oil light would come on whenever I brake or put the car in park. If I’m driving it does not come on at all, only when parking or braking, and it is not every single time either. Any ideas as to why this is? Maybe a faulty sensor? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, it is over 2 months of a wait for the dealerships in the area to take a look. Do you think it’s something a regular garage could fix? Thanks!
This is what a good shop should do.
Place a regular gauge in place of the oil pressure sending unit and see just what kind of oil pressure the engine really has.
Then we go from there.
Could be wrong oil in engine
Faulty oil pressure sending unit
Possible wire from sending unit contacting an unintended ground .
If it is found to be none of the above, I would have Hyundai check out the engine, if internal, maybe warranty coverage available.

I've had both oil pressure warning light and hybrid alert warning lights come on occasionally. Both were false alarms. Hyundai has a known problem with the oil pressure sensor, so someday there may be a recall. I doubt your dealer will be able to find any problems, just like mine could not.
What puzzles me is, if we are aware there is a known problem with the oil pressure sending unit, they are not that expensive and not difficult to change , so what are we waiting for ? Pick up the correct part from Hyindai and have your shop just replace it. The cost should be for 1 hour labor and the price of the part.
Nobody is going to do it for free..

If they knew exactly how to fix the problem and it would be corrected, sure. I'll wait for the lawsuit and they can pay the costs. I am not the only owner with this problem. A review of your local dealers service dept will tell you if it is even worth your time. Please remember that this is the dept. that keeps the dealership going by having the highest profits. Even more than finance and sales.

Same thing just happened to me. I have a 2017 Sonata under 20,000 miles. About two weeks after an oil change my oil pressure light starts coming on when idling. It’s been really cold out and I did splash through some water from snowmelt a few times.
Didn’t come on when I first start the car do far.
