Parking Lights and Fogs
My Sonata is an 02 for starters.
What I want to do is be able to turn the fogs on and off when the parking lights are on. So, instead of having to have the lows on, I want to be able to turn on the parking lights, and then be able to turn on or off the fogs without having to turn on the lows. Any ideas? I have a shop manual and have yet to look through the electrical sections for an idea. Thanks. |

Basically the fog lights are powered all the time whenever the car is on. The switch just grounds the circuit. However, it grounds it through the headlight switch. If the headlight switch isn't on, it won't ground. What you have to do is find which wire at the foglight switch is the ground wire, cut it and ground the half connected to the switch to a metal structure inside the dash (and tape off the other half). Now the fog lights will work independent of the headlights and parking lights.

Would it be easier to directly wire them to the battery with a fused relay and a switch mounted in the dash? It's more difficult in concept but would seem easier overall (especially for troubleshooting if something craps out). Thanks for the input. |
