I would like to know if wheels from an 06 sante fe will fit on my new 09 sonata. They are 16X6.5 and BOLT PATTERN is 5ON4.50. The size appears to be the same as what's on the Sonatas with alloy wheels, but I'd like to know for sure before I buy them. My new Sonata came with steel wheels and wheel covers. I put snow tires on the steel wheels and have the brand new Michelin tires waiting for some better rims. Any help here would be appreciated.

 

They shoudl fit with no problems. They have the same bolt pattern and center bore. I replaced the 16" wheels on my 2006 Tucson with 18" wheels from a Hyundai Veracruz with no problems:

Personally, I think the 2006 Santa Fe 16" wheels are just OK compared to others.

I'm going to use a set of 16" Tiburon 03 wheels on my 07 Sonata. I bought them years ago off ebay with three great Michelins for ~ $130. My kind of price.
16x6-1/2 (alloy, 5 spoke). I prefer 16" to 17" for street use, as higher profile tires offer more protection for the wheel & a softer ride. Hitting a bump & destroying a wheel & tire is just too easy with lower profile tires, especially with 50 & below series aspect ratio.
Why do you think all those wheel repair places have started business?

 

That's just not true. There are plenty of cars that come with 18" and larger tires with 50-series or lower profile tires from the factory.

Here are some of my past and present cars:
2002 Voyager - 17" wheels - 225/60-17 tires - 45,000+ miles = zero problems
2003 Vibe - 17" wheels - 215/50-17 tires - 24,000+ miles = zero problems
2004 Tiburon - 17" wheels 215/45-17 tires - 36,000+ miles = zero problems
2006 Tucson - 18" wheels - 235/50-18 tires - 33,000+ miles = zero problems
2006 Sedona - 17" wheels - 235/60-17 tires - 30,000+ miles = zero problems

That's 168,000 miles on 17" wheels (or larger) with no problems. And that is on Pennsylvanis roads; some of the worst roads in the country.

1. I am in the same situation as gsgolf.
2. I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with 16'' steel wheels. I bought snow tires and put them on the steels, and I am currently looking for alloys to fit on my factory all-season tires.

4. When viewing the different "rim" stores, I get confused with what will fit my tires.

Example A:
Size 16" x 6.5
Bolt Pattern 5x114.3mm
Offset +42mm

Example B:
Size 16" x 7
Bolt Pattern 5x100/114.3mm or 5x110/114.3mm?
Offset +42mm or +40mm?


5. Which one will fit?
6. Can I buy 17'' rims to put on these tires? Or does it have to be 16"?

16 x 6.5J with a 5x114 bolt pattern and 46mm offset.

Either can be made to work, but example A matches the stock specification better than example B. The smaller offset means the exposed face of the tire will be extended farther from the hub face, providing a slightly wider stance. It looks like example B has a dual bolt pattern.

The tires require a 16" rim. If you want 17" rims, you will need to buy a different set of 17" tires.

I assume the original TPMS sensors are still installed on the steel rims with the snow tires. Any rim you purchase needs to be TPMS sensor capable and you will need to buy a new set of four sensors for the TPMS system to work. The downside to this situation is the sensors on each set of rims will have to be registered with the system (using the TPMS Exciter scantool) each time they are installed on the car. The alternative would be to install the original sensors on the new alloy rims and then live with the TPMS system error light on while driving the car with the snow tires.

I do not have them on my car.
So I guess I will be saving a bit of money there...
I am in Canada, the stock model does not come with TPMS.
