Sonata CV joint problem

Hello!

On my Hyundai Sonata I got a problem with the right (passenger side) cv joint - it is making a clacking noise around the front right wheel.
I come from Europe. Original halfshaft for the Sonata costs here 520€!! (CV joint is not sold separately)
On ebay USA I find complete new halfshaft with the postage to Europe for $150!!
Here the problem occurs. VIN numbers of American and European hyundai cars can not be compared.
Will the halfshaft for american car fit my european Sonata?

Tech spec for my car: European 1999 Sonata 2.5 V6 161 bhp, with ABS and TCS. Manual gearbox!

Tech spec for USA halshaft on ebay:

[/align] Make Model Year Group Description Application HYUNDAI
SONATA

1999 TO 2005 FITS FRONT RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) CV AXLE DRIVE SHAFT 2.5, 2.7 V6

So I ask you, are halfshfts the same for the manual and automatic transmission?
And if the USA driveshaft fits on European car?

Thanks for the answer!

On U.S. cars, there appears to be no difference in the halfshafts for manual or automatic tranmissions, but there is a difference on one side for engines (see attachment). V6 has a center shaft with a bearing assembly holding the free end of the shaft, then a shorter halfshaft extending out to the hub. The I4 appears to have a longer half shaft with no center shaft/bearing assembly.

Also, U.S. cars apparently can have one of two different CV joints, DOJ and TJ types. Looks like the TJ type has a harmonic balencer installed on the shaft, where DOJ types do not.

I have no idea. I hope someone else on the forum can answer this question with some certainty for you.

I hope what I've shared helps.

RE: Sonata CV joint problem

NAPA Online (another major auto part supplier in the U.S.) shows the same part number on the manual with ABS as the automatic with or without ABS. Only the manual without ABS is different. Price (with core charge) is about the same as the $150 for the Ebay item. None of this helps determine if the U.S. part is the same as the European.

RE: Sonata CV joint problem

Thank you for answers and the NAPA website. Unfortunately, NAPA will not send things in Europe.

Here is the driveshaft that I have looked at ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150279239844

The price is great, and they shipped this item in Europe...

What is your opinion?

If your car has the center shaft assembly as shown in the diagram, there's a good chance it is the right part. Go for it, but that is very easy for me to say because it is not my money.

Good luck.
