RE: Sonata rear noise
Yeah, it's stickied. This is good for Sonata owners to know. I have a question; I've heard Sonata owners complain of "fuel slosh". Could it be that they are barking up the wrong tree and the real issue is the shock aborbers?
Very nice job on the grill... Not my style but a very professional job. The Sonata looks stunning in that color! |
RE: Sonata rear noise
All,
Did this effect the 06's? |
RE: Sonata rear noise- Rear Shock Replacement
Will this effect the 20074 cyl model too?
We drove ours offf the lot with 25 miles on it Friday night. We heard a clunking the next day. |
RE: Sonata rear noise- Rear Shock Replacement
does this apply to 2006 sonatas as well?

RE: Sonata rear noise- Rear Shock Replacement
Thanks for this detailed post! It really helped me expedite this repair of my '07 Sonata with the dealership!

RE: Sonata rear noise- Rear Shock Replacement
not all noise from the rear of sonatas are the rear shocks, it is indeed the fuel tank(fuel slosh) which sucks.

RE: Sonata rear noise- Rear Shock Replacement
My 06 Sonata had this problem. Worse yet not only did it "thump" the rear end would "jump" if one hit a medium to large bump in the middle of a corner. They replaced the shocks under warranty, problem solved.

RE: Sonata rear noise- Rear Shock Replacement
My 2006 4-cylinder had a problem with both sides of the front and rear suspension on more than one occasion. All were replaced under warranty.

RE: Sonata rear noise- Rear Shock Replacement
This problem is not unique to the 09 V6 model, plus I believe it isa front and rear suspension problem or the tires. I just leased an 09 GLS 4cyl. when I test drove a similar model I did not hear or feel this problem. Also, when I took delivery of my car, the tires had an air pressure of 43 PSI. I lowered the pressureto 32PSI, any lower and the TPMS light comes on, which I don't care aboutbecause the car rides better. I had a 10 year old Ford F-150 with 120,000 miles on it that rode better than this car. Except for this problem I like the car alot, but intend to take a run at the dealer. The noise and the jarring ride arereally annoying.I think different tiresmight alsohelp. The car feels like the tires are made of solid rubber.

GDay from Australia - just bought an early 2007 used Sonata NF V6 here with 30,000 miles. I noticed this clunking so GREAT INFO for me to take to dealership tomorrow! Cheers! Gordon (ex Royal Aussie air Force air traffic controller - Captain)

So when should Sonata shocks and struts be replaced?
I guess this could be a new question but please tell me, what is the normal life of shocks and struts on Sonata's? I have nearly 75000 on my Sonata and it drives just fine. I have been having the tires rotated and balanced as well as alignment etc. What do you think?

Well nice for these posts it would help many users of sonata but one thing more the noise is not only from its shock but many a times the fuel tank also makes a hell lot of noise.

I bet the car is equipped with "V" rated tires... add in some high pressure gas shocks, and firm springs.... firm ride.. just like a childs little red wagon over the cracks in the sidewalk.. You could put some lower speed rated tires on it, but then the handling may suffer.. |
1999 Sonata rear shock question
HI, Audrey here, passenger rear shock making noise and leaking oil. How do I get the old one off? It looks like the top goes under the pannel behind the rear seat. How do I get that off to get to the top of the shock?
Thanks BTW - The first message on this thread is no longer readable. |
great question - it looks like the shelf, rear seat or both need to be removed. I hope someone replies with the correct solution!

Hello All, I recenty purchased a 2011 Sonata SE. With only 2,700 miles on the vehicle someone hit the bumper. The collision shop had to replace the bumper cover and shock absorber. After getting the vehicle back from the shop I drove with the sterio off to hear if there was anything rubbing, etc. I have noticed a strange sound which sounds like a blown shock or bushing. For those of you who have had this rear noise issue can you confirm the sound? This noise primarily occurs when making turns and while driving over bumps/uneven pavement. It is a sort of popping noise. I am not sure if it has been occuring prior to the bumper incident. Is this noise loud, becuase the noise my vehicle is making is not very loud but when the sterio is off it is rather noticable. Can you guys help? Thank you, Lou
