Thermal Module FAQ/Replacement

I had a diagnostic done on my 2004 Sonata and they said the Thermal Module was broke and quoted $1000.00 to fix. What exactly is a thermal module? Can a full service station fix this instead of the dealership? Any ideas?

Who did this "diagnostic" and what makes them say it's a "Thermal Module"?

What problem were you having with your car that made you take it in for service? I've never heard of a thermal module before. Maybe it's a device whereby they heat up your wallet and remove a large sum of cash?!?

Unless you are having warranty work done which apparently you are not you can take your car anywhere you want to have it repaired. Any reputable shop should be able to tackle most repair jobs. It sounds like it would be a very good idea to get a second opinion. Don't be afraid to ask questions and/or have them show you the part and explain what it's function is.

What is the concern that prompted you to take car for service ? Post is rather vague..

-- Customer states : The "______________" does not function....

Fill in the specific concern to the underline..

Do you have part number for this module they say is $1000 to replace ?

Thermal module?

Is it related to a muffler bearing?

NovaResource 10-27-2010 03:47 PM

No, I think it's related to a Kuhneutson Valve. See here:

If you need muffler bearings you can get them here:

But they are all out of blinker fluid:

My a/c and defroster where turning on and off at random and then the entire fan system would not turn on without my rear defroster being turned on. I moved to a new town and took it to a local dealership for the diagnostic because I didn't really know of anywhere else to go at the time.

The fan system was turning on and off at random and then the power button switched to my rear defroster, it has to be on for any of the fans to operate now.
