USB memory stick issues

I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

I used to have a 4Gig memory stick that I music stored on. Every once in a while there would be issues but it worked 99% of the time.

I misplaced the 4 Gig stick, and I eventually got tired of looking for it so I purchased a 16Gig memory stick. I keep getting a read error with the stick, and even when I can see the title of the songs displayed on the radio console the car won't play them. Eventually it will say that the stick is empty.

edit:The title should say "USB" not "use".

Should I just assume it is the memory stick?

Possibly. Try reformatting the stick.

I'm having the same problem with my 2013 Sonata. I bought a 16gb thumb drive, and the radio says it can't read the drive. It works fine on my home computers. I'm wondering if the Hyundai USB port has a size limit, or if there is a problem with the format the songs are in. The songs are in mpeg4 format. However, the Hyundai radio doesn't even recognize the file folders on the thumb drive.

I believe the size is one issue. Try keeping the USB drive under 4 GB. One issue I have occasionally run into when it is really hot out is the disk will never read until I stick it into the air conditioning vent. I leave it there for about a minute or two stick it in and it reads instantly. I can pull it out and put it back in a hundred times and it won't work until I cool it off. Weird.

USB connection Error 2013 Elantra

I have a Verbatim 32G that I use for my everyday drive, loaded with music, works fine in my 2013 Elantra; however I bought a PNY 16G, formatted to FAT32... 3 times now... loaded same music files onto it and car reads Connection Error... ideas?

more info... i bought 2 of the PNY at the same time... one works fine the other does not in the car... in the puter they both work ok.

I've used several 16GB USB drives (formatted FAT32) in my 2009 Sonata Limited (Infinity sound system) and they've all worked.

However, one poster mentioned their music was mp4, and the Sonata (at least mine) won't play any mp4/m4a/aac music files, only .mp3. Yours may be the same; I'd suggest trying your flash drive with .mp3s before concluding 16GB drives won't work.

I have a '13 Elantra GT with USB port problems on some brands of USB sticks.
I have a 32G Sandisk that works great. The car recognizes it right away and begins playing. About 20 folders with 10 to 30 songs per folder.
Then I have a PNY micro USB Stick that I want to use, mainly because I like the very small size... it doesn't stick way out like other sticks, but my car will not recognize this drive at all. I've tried using different formats... FAT32, NTS, makes no difference it just will not work.
Then I have a cheap Vibatron, forget the exact brand name, and it works about 80% of the time.

So for my new GT I'll be sticking with Scandisk USB drives.

Your problem is the formating of the stick
when you format the thunb drive format it 16bit to be on the safe side.

2009 Hyundai Sonata Infinity Radio - USB Strick format

I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with the Infinity radio.
To get my 32GB PNY Flash Drive (stick) to work with my MP3 music (over 19GB @ 128KBPS) by using the following formatting on the stick:

FAT32
8192 bytes

I used a Windows PC with Windows 7 to do the formatting.
