WOULD SONATA OWNERS BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI
Most things on a car, all cars, are wear items. Some wear at higher rates than others.
My failing to investigate the problem sooner is irrelevant. I suppose you think that all car owners should bring them in every 7500 miles for a brake inspection. Sure makes service departments happy.
A rear pad completely wearing out in 25K of fairly easy driving, while the pads on the other side show negligible wear, is the result of an obvious defect. It is not, by even the wildest stretch, anything resembling normal wear.
Therefore it is a manufacturing defect and should have been covered. Period.
And yes, I did ignore it longer than I should have. I just figured it was nothing more than a squeaky pad, which is something I've seen before and no big deal. Fortunately I did catch it before it was metal to metal or I would have been buying a new rotor. I have kept an eye on it closely since. Fortunately whatever burr was causing it seems to be gone now. Probably knocked it off when I replaced the pads.
I will be happy if this is the only time I have to test the warranty, especially since it was such a cheap fix. I still think the dealer was dumb to not eat something which would have costed him about a half hour of a tech's time and maybe 20 dollars in parts.
Had I been a regular new car buyer, his actions would have cost him a future sale. I night be a cheap SOB, but, I tend to be a loyal customer when I feel I am receiving good service.
But, I'm not. Odds are pretty good I'll never buy another new car. If I do, it won't be from this dealer. I've been tempted to write the dealer owner, but, not concerned enough about it to do so. Maybe I will some day rather than just ranting here to strangers.

My GFs friend's elantra ignored the noises in her car for a week after she got the oil changed and now the car is a goner as she blew the engine while driving the car on the highway... so always check everything when a noise popped up...
You bet I would! Owned a 2005 Tucson we drove for six years with "0" problems.Never had to do anything but routine maintenance.Purchased our 2012 Sonata (Yes, it's a 2012) 3 months ago and has only been back to the dealer once for a car wash ( we get free car washes for life) They even gave us a voucher for a second free tank of gas and 3 oil changes. Unfortunately due to poor eyesight I no longer drive but I* rude shotgun while my lovely wife chaufers me. What a deal!
Have 06 GLs Sonata No Problems 58 k Same brakes .Afterinspection 40% lleft Front /Rear.. Daughters 07 Sonata 30K needs rear brakes.. Whats the design change ?? Was told should of had rear pins lubed !! 200.00 WHAT A JOKE >>
Buy another Sonata? No way. 45,000 miles on a Ltd. 6. In shop at least 7 times, not all warrantee work either. TPMS- 2x, sensors - 3x , including a three day stay with no loaner, and they couldn't figure it out at that dealer-worse, they said "no problem found". 2d dealer knew what it was by my description over the telephone. Another time needed new plugs, carbon build up on a car that we only use to visit another town 210 miles away on open highway at 65 mph straight thru. How the heck do we get carbon build up? No answer. And each time tried to sell me some other unneeded service (e.g. I changed brakes 6 weeks prior, was told brakes are only 15% left). Went to 2d dealer 3 weeks later was told brakes are fine.
This is why I do all my own work, including warrantee. All warrantee work I have had done was disappointing, all work I have had done otherwise was disappointing too.
Included cars: 65 Valiant, 68 Charger, 82 Pontiac, 84 Oldsmobile, 93 Caddy, 96 Chevy Express, all bought new. I had three that never needed anything, 79 Caprice, 2 older (74 & 78) Chevy vans, all bought new, and two ancient cars given to me, 95 Suzuki and 00 Sonata, I am happier with these two reliable old cars than I ever was with any new one.
One exception, the Caddy dealer in Warren MI did good work, but why so much of it on a new Caddy? I lost 50 cents a mile on that one, just depreciation, no other costs figured in that.
No I am not a mechanic, no I don't have many special tools, I just dislike poor workmanship, especially when it affects me, not the person doing it.

Great! I would love to and intend to do some of the work myself, time and facilities permitting. Even better may be a referral I got from a cool truck driver who owns a 2007 Hyundai - a great and reasonably priced mechanic, formerly worked (and still does ,at times) on race cars located only three or four miles from my house.
