03 Tiburon with starting problems

I just got an 03 tiburon gt and as of lately its been having a hard time starting. I will try to start it and it cranks over but it takes a good 5 seconds for it to catch idle. Also now its been revving up to 2 grand right after it starts. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Any check engine light or codes?

How many miles?
Did you do a tune up?
Change any filters?
Replace the timing belt?

Hi
My son has a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT and has had the same exact problems, stalling out at a roll and then it got worse. Sometime it won’t restart for 5 mins. We did these repairs new spark plugs & wires, New PVC valve because we found oil in the up intake manifold, removed and cleaned the upper intake manifold and throttle body, mass air flow sensor, etc.

Than a few days later it completely died and won’t start. While testing all of the sensor on the throttle body I realized it was cranking fine but it wouldn’t kick over! We checked if I we had spark at a spark plug. No spark!!!!

We replaced the whole Ignition coil and the problem was solved, $139.50 at the dealer parts department. We changed it in about one hour. Advance was $165.00 and Auto Zone was $159.00. The dealer was cheaper for once and an exact OEM replacement. It was weird because it Ran then didn't then copletely went bad, our first guess wasn't a coil.

It’s been 2 weeks and the car runs better with more power than it has for awhile. So the ignition coil sovled the problem. The coil is in three section's but Don't replace just part of the coil to save money. You"ll have more problems.....

Answer:

You have an idle sensor on your throttle body and choke but it's not called a choke. You can unplug it and your car will idle at normal RPM,
but that's not the fix, that's just so you know you have the right sensor.

When It's really cold weather your car should only idle at max of 1500 until it warms up, the sensor is out of cal. or bad. It's connected to your ecu.

When you unscrew the two srcew's it's a dial in side with two metal pin's which connect to two metal pin's on the throttle body, the ECU will spin the dial rasing the rpm. It's spring loaded in side.

Unless you know what your doing don't do anymore than unplug it......
