Bank 1/ Sensor 1
 

I recently purchared a 2005 tiburon gs 2.0 4cyl. for my daughter. After about a week the check engine light came on. She stopped in advanced auto and had them scan for codes and was told that she needed an oxygen sensor. I purchased and installed it for her. After 3 days of driving, the light has come on again. I scanned it again and here is the code:

P0133
Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Response
Bank 1 / Sensor 1

Any help would be appreciated on what may be causing this

Which O2 sensor did you replace? There are 2. One before the cat and one after the cat. On an inline 4-cylinder engine, there is only one bank. Sensor 1 is the sensor between the cylinder head the and cat. Sensor 2 is the sensor after that cat.

I replaced the one before the cat right off of the exhaust manifold.

Did you use a Hyundai OEM sensor or an aftermarket brand?

It was a Bosch premium aftermarket from Advanced Auto.

Could of purchased the Hyundai OEM for the same price, but the dealer had to order it.

Well, I've heard of people having problem with non-OEM O2 sensors.

Hi,

I just went thru the same problem on my 2004 Tiburon, same engine and same parts ... bought a Bosch O2 Sensor and after replacing it had the same error P0133 ... then bought a Denso that was more expensive, same error ... finally took it to the dealership and they said it was because I did not use an OEM o2 sensor (Delphi) so I had the dealership replace it to the tune of 291.00 with labor. Drove it home and got the same error ... after 3 weeks of back and forth with the dealership (they tried everything from bad negative battery terminal to wiring harness) they FINALLY figured out it was the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter to the tune of 800.00, and that was the problem. Have them check your exhaust manifold for leaks. Hopefully this will save your the headaches I went through.
