gas pump problem

Hello... My gas tank is almost empty and everytime I go to put gas in it I will get to put 2 gallons and the gas pump stops and I try to keep putting gas in my car put the pump keeps stopping.... I know it's not the gas pump at the station but it's my gas tank that doing it... Does anyone know what's causing this????

Yes, your not supposed to fill it to the max. Just fill it until it stops. When you overfill it, it floods the charcoal canister and little bits of charcoal float out and render the emissions control system FUBAR. The result is there is no ventilation for the gas tank anymore, and it shuts of the fuel pump too easy. The fix is expensive and a pain in the butt. Just fill it slow and like it the way it is.
