Malfunction Indicator light on My 06 Tiburon

I was driving along and this light came on Malfunction Indicator Light.. It seems to be just fine.. I can't get anyone to look @ it because of the Labor Day holiday and it is the only means of transportation I have now.. Is it okay to drive ?? I live out of town, and I also do Home Health for a living and depend on my car.. I need help.. Thank you so much in advance. Susana

There is no way to know unless you find out what the code causing the light is. Some codes are fine to drive around on for a little while, others aren't. Go to an autoparts store that reads codes for free and find out what the problem is.

Do you know any chains that do that for free.. Seems like there was one.. We have them all in OKC.. I think.. Thanks so much, you really helped me out last time..as well.. I hope I can get it figured out relatively soon.. :-0 Susana

I believe Pep Boys and AutoZone do it. Also CSK or NAPA.

When my engine light lit up on my Elantra, the dealership told me that it's okay to drive it for a little while with the the light on, as long as the car seems to be running okay otherwise. If it starts to flash at you or there are other indications of a problem (temperature gauge at hot, rough running, etc.), turn it off immediately.

If it gets to the point where you don't feel you can drive the car, just call roadside assistance and they will tow it to the dealership for free.
