Replacing dashboard dimmer switch
My dashboards lights are very dim, and the dimmer switch has no effect.
Is there an easy way to get at this switch to remove and replace it? Thanks. |
dimmer Switch
Just like your typical dimmer switch at home inside there is a variable resistor. the one main reason why your dash lights are low is because your resistor is pooched. The resistor controls how much voltage goes through...lower the resistance brighter the bulb higher resistance lower the bulb. Yes it is possible to get it fixed....just replace the switch

Thanks Pdirico.
Is the switch easy access under the dash? Or do I have to remove parts of the dashboard? |
What year ?

It's a 2003, sorry, should have said that earlier.
I need to change the dimmer switch, and also the bulbs from the center consode (where the AC and fan knobs are) because that's all dark. |
If I would have known yesterday, I could have looked at the fellas' car with the fried BCM...
I went to HMA site, in the tech login, the pic of the dash-component looks like it (rheostat) should just pop out of dash.. |
I got the dimmer switch out.
sbr711, can you get a schematic diagram from the HMA site? I'ld like to test it outside the car before I plunk $90 for a new switch. I have tools, I can rig up something to test it, I just need to know the pinout. There is voltage to the harness, I checked. |
I'll reply to my own thread with what I've got so far:
1- I purchased a new rheostat online from Hyundai Parts Wholesale, http://www.partswebsite.com/hyundaipartswholesale/ Part number is 949502C000, about $46 with shipping. Price was $86 at dealer here in Calgary, Canada. 2- I found the schematic, at this link: http://hmaservice.com/data/Passenger...G/e2ge345a.svg It's all starting to make sense now. I'll update when I receive the part and hopefully fix this problem. Cheers. |
Was it difficult to find and replace the dimmer switch? I have a 2002 Elantra GT and the dash lights are really dim... Thanks
