Tiburon fixed in a round about way
so I have a 2004 tiburon 2.7l 5 speed Canadian car. Was having random crank but no start issues and flashing immobilizer light. Tried all the easy stuff like crank and cam sensors and the security antenna. I also have a 2006 2.7l automatic American car that the engine is gone in. So I decided to take the key and ignition , the bcm and the ecu from that car and try it in the 2004 and it fired right up and runs like a champ. I noticed though that the immobilizer light does not even come on when I turn the key on probably because the parts are from an American car. And I now have o2 sensor codes that I never had before but the car starts and runs strong. |
I would never have guessed that it would work.
Congrats. Do you need to have car inspected annually? Will it pass with an ECU from a different vehicle? |
We have to have a mechanical and body safety inspection every 2 years but no emissions testing or anything like that. Had a new sticker put on it yesterday. |
New York state requires the VIN in the ECU be the same as the vehicle body
And that the ECU have almost all of the readiness monitors set. We can not erase DTC codes from the ECU and have it pass inspection. But, great to hear you got it passed. Did you figure out what the cause is for the O2 trouble code?? |
Someone told me they thought the Canadian and American cars may have different sensors but I’m not sure that really makes sense to me |
Agreed. The only difference is that Canada requires the vehicles to have an immobilizer for anti theft
Where as in America, the Government allows you to have your car stolen. It is tour choice ... lol. |
