2006 Tucson diesel wont pull when cold

2006 Tucson 4WD Diesel 60,000 miles

Hi everyone, I've had a problem for a few days now, when I start my car in the morning it idles very rough for a few minutes, I can pull away in first gear ok but when I change up its very sluggish. When it warms up its much better but still a little sluggish in higher gears. First thing in the morning is worst but the fault never really goes away.

I connected my OBD scanner but no faults show up.

Any suggestions welcome.

Have you always purchased your fuel from the same location?
Did they switch suppliers?
When was the fuel filter last changed?
Don't know were you reside, but if you are getting summer fuel when you should be getting winter fuel with a higher cetane rating you could be seeing a problem like this.
Have you tried a fuel system additive to help raise the cetane rating ?

Hi, I dont think its a problem with the fuel, I get mine from Morrisons, the same place for the last 10 years and never had a problem

Are you seeing any black smoke coming from the exhaust when the problem is present?
Diesels require only air and fuel and usually a problem with air will be present all the time.

Sometimes places get a load of bad fuel . Until the fuel quality and system are checked out anything is possible.

not seeing any black smoke and most people I know use the same petrol station ...... surely if it was bad fuel it wouldnt improve as the engine warms up ?

Without being able to run some checks ,
If the engine runs good when warmed up, that would tell me the engine is capable of running good.
So what changes when it is cold ?
Poor quality fuel will many times run better when the engine is warmed up.
Time to get some checks done to determine if something is preventing good combustion when cold.
Any problems starting when cold? Glow plugs, intake heater ? These will affect performance when starting and cold.
What kind of maintenance has been done?
