Default Egr hell

I can see this is an issue with many drivers but I desperately need some basic guidance and I really don't know where else to go.

Engine light has been on for about 5 days. Noticed some lack of power at higher revs. I bought a proper diagnostic tablet and its given me an active fault on the EGR and a pending on the O2 sensor which from what I've seen goes hand in hand.

Codes are: 0403 (active) and 2196 (pending)

I have the whole data stream recorded via my device but my local garage is INSISTING on paying to run their own diagnostic... and potentially worse case scenario 800-1000 to repair.

Ofcourse.. My MOT is also due next week and it obviously won't pass.

I don't want to sound like a sob story but I'm a single mum that works NHS nights at various hospitals around the region - I regularly travel over 100 miles to get to my base. Without a vehicle I am in serious trouble.

I am not DIY or mechanically minded at all. I have searched and searched, just trying to figure out where the damn valve is under the hood. Could anyone PLEASE PLEASE tell me the basics - perhaps send a photo labeled with the valve positioning and attached pipes (I have a TUCSON 2016 1.7 CRDi).

My only option seems to be to try and remove and clean it and see if that helps at least short term. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.
