Help please...2007 Tucson ignition problems
 

Have had intermittent ignition problems for the past several months. I can hear the solenoid pull in but it won't turn over. Sometimes if you hold the key to the "start" position it will catch but not always. Brought it in to 3 repair garages and since it worked fine for them, they sent me packing. I changed the battery and it seemed fine for a couple of weeks. It won't start with a boost either. Any advice from the Sparkies out there?

How are the battery cables? Don't just check the ends at the battery, check the other ends too, and the resistance.

Thanks NovaResource. You may be on to something. We changed the battery terminal ends of the cables but never looked beyond. I'll check it out tomorrow. What level of resistance should I be looking for through the cables if you don't mind?

Do a voltage drop test between the terminal att eh battery and the connection at the starter while cranking the engine. If there is amore than a 0.3v is too much.

Also check the starter relay:
1. Remove the fuse box cover.
2. Remove the starter relay(A).

3. Inspect the relay continuity.
A. Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between terminals 2 and 4.
If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
B. Check that there is no continuity between terminals 1 and 5.
If there is continuity, replace the relay.

4. Inspect the relay operation.
A. Apply battery positive voltage across terminals 2 and 4.
B. Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between terminals 1 and 5.
If there is no continuity, replace the relay.

5. Install the starter relay.
6. Install the fuse box cover.

Also check your fuel relay under the hood. Mine corroded so bad, it had to be hard wired outside of that relay box. I went though a fuel pump and filter before finding this out. The whole relay box is corroding and the relays wont make contact
