Hyundai Tuscon PHEV Start Trouble
Hi folks,
My wife drives a 2023 Tuscon PHEV (only about 8k miles on it as of now). Had a frustrating event today where the car would not start, demanding that it be shifted into park 'P' -- it unexpected booted directly into 'D' at start-up, but the car refused to shift from 'D' to 'P', just repeatedly displaying warnings about needing to be shifted to 'P'.
I'm cross-posting a solution onto this forum in the hopes that another driver with the same issue more easily finds this solution:
Another Santa Fe driver had the same problem and posted the following solution, which also worked for our 2023 Tuscon PHEV:
1) Find the hybrid system fuse-box under the hood (bonnet for you Brits).
2) Find the 10 amp fused labelled E-Shifter.
3) Unseat the fuse, and reseat the fuse.
4) Car will now shift into 'P' and complete its start-up allowing you to drive.
Worked like a Ctrl-Alt-Del on a Windows computer. The electronic shifter apparently got into a bad software state and needed to be rebooted, and pulling the fuse apparently accomplishes this.
Good luck.
