Installing bike rack on 2010 Hyundai Tuscon
 

I would like to install a bike rack on my Tuscon. I can not lift my bike up to the roof to use a roof type carrier. I went to the bike shop and they rec a trailer hitch type carrier, but I do not have a hitch.... The bike shop said they are not comfortable using the bike carrier that hooks onto the rear lift gate because of the spoiler on the top of the rear lift gate (they were concerned the spoiler might crack).

Anyone have any suggestions?? I have called my dealership for info and help and nobody has returned my call (grrrrrr!).

I agree that you might break the rear spoiler. Just install a hitch and use the hitch style carrier.

I got a quote from my Hyundai dealer yesterday.... $800 to install a trailer hitch! That is more then the bike cost me! If the hitch is not installed properly it will void my vehicle warranty.

I then called Hyundai direct. Consumer affairs spent some time researching for me and stated that the lift gate door can hold 1 bike - no more than 1 - and to be sure to purchase a good quality bike rack. I am going to contact my bike shop today to see what they have in stock.

I just installed a trailer hitch on my 2010 tucson and its by far the easiest hitch install i have ever done. Took about 10 minutes and hitch was 110 bucks from etrailer.com I had a bike hitch for my 2 inch receiver that was on my previous truck. If you plan to tow anything you need to get their wiring kit for the trailer lights and it was slightly harder to install due to running a power wire (included in the kit) to the battery. I also had a hitch installed. Easiest install I've ever seen, 20 minutes done and price wise very competitive.
Now my bike has a good place to go.
