Gas mileage
 

Just picked up a '08 Veracruz with 2200 mile on it.
After a few weeks of mixed driving, mostly HW we get a 17.5 mpg.
No impressed. We replaced our '06 Subaru Tribeca. Always got 19+ in the same setting. Plus long HW drives were 21.
This barely got us 18.5 on a long HW drive at 70 mph, no air.
Not impressed.
I just checked it manually, 280 miles at 16 gallons = 17.5
Can't wait until the wife starts using the air....

Anyone else tell me what they are getting?

The Veracruz is almost 300-pounds heavier with a larger engine (3.8L vs a 3.0L in the Tribeca). What did you expect?

EPA of 22 on highway

My SF is getting 22MPG driving the same way, mixed.

The bigger engine should be offset by the 6 speed trans.

15 is suppose to be city.. not a 30% city/ 70% Hwy

At 70mph without air I reset the MPG and trip..
It showed 18.5 after a few miles.

I'm hoping after 5-6K it shows a bit better.

Takes a while for a new engine to loosen up. Wait until 10K before you pass judgment.

Six speed trans won't get you better gas mileage. Final drive ratio, the relative efficiency of the torque converter, and keeping your foot off the gas is the key. A smaller engine with less weight will do better (probably the Mazda has better technology too.)

I didn't realize you only had 2200 miles on it. Yes, give it at least 8K-10K miles for the engine to loosen up. Mileage should slowly get better over that time.

my 08 has 9000 mi on it and i get around 21 mixed driving and 13 pulling the camper . i would give it another 5000 mi to get the engine broken in and i bet you'll see an increase ,but still nothing to write home about
