is this gas mileage for real?

Hi,

I just bought a 2008 Veracruz Limited. I have only driven 70 miles in so far, but I've already used half a tank of gas! (City driving, but still ...). I don't drive aggressively.

The trip computer was reset when I bought it too, and it's reading 9.2 MPG. This is roughly in line with the above fuel usage. Is this normal? I read about people's real-world mileage before I bought it, and it seemed like they were getting 16-18 MPG.

I'm really concerned about this. Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

Thanks

You haven't driven it enough and you can't go by the computer because it's an estimate. Fill the tank, write down the mileage and drive it 'till it's almost empty. Fill it up again. Divide the miles driven by the gallons filled to get an actual mileage.

I have a 2008 Limited 2WD. We drive conservativly and usually see between 18-20 mpg around town, 22-23 on the road at 70 mph. Over the years I have seen as high as 28-29, but that is not normal. If you fill the tank, reset the trip computer, and drive as you normally would, you should see much better than 9 mpg. If it doesn't improve considerably, I would be getting it checked.
