Hyundai Veracruz - Center Dash Cover Squeaks
 

We have a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz and ever since we purchased it the car has had a terrible squeak come from the center dash speaker cover. The squeak is worse when you drive over any rough roads but remains constant even when the road is smooth. If I press down on the front left corner of the cover (applying some pressure) the squeaking stops completely. I have removed the cover and tried many things to stop the squeak but nothing seems to work. It sounds like plastic rubbing together.

Anyone else out there having the same issue or have a resolution to this problem? Taking it to our local dealer is out of the question seeing how they only make things worse every time they get the car.

Well... if you managed to get the grille off, has retainer clips I think..

Some of the clips have real thin cloth tape on them, put something on the clips to reduce the friction sounds, either tape, or small film of grease on the clips to reduce sounds...

I suppose if you really wanted, a well placed dab(s) of RTV may just help reduce movement after it cures.

Thanks for the quick reply...After removing the grille the first time this is one of the first things I thought of as well. Unfortunately after making sure they were padded securely the problem still existed. Last night I tried looking at it one more time and actually found where the problem was coming from. There is a metal clip (brace) underneath the hole where the center speaker sits. The plastic casing slides through this clip as one of the supports for the speaker frame case. Thus the plastic and metal rubbing together causes the squeak.

Since it is very hard to get to the clip with any type of insulation or padding the easiest thing I found was to add some padded spacers underneath the lip of the casing putting a slight pressure on the clip then filling the edge of the clip ring with silicone. After testing it on some very rough roads it seems to have done the trick.
