trans shifts in overdrive at around 40?

09 veracruz 16,00 miles tsb has been performed to change the shift values and at 40 it shift in over drive then the engine labors or you have to punch the gas. Normal? You make the call?

My opinion: normal. Just about all cars will up-shift quickly under light throttle. This is done for fuel economy reasons. Two ways around the upshift, slightly harder acceleration with a wider throttle opening or slide the shifter into Shiftronic mode and control the shift yourself.

Courious question how will it improve fuel economy if the engind labors at lower speeds. My wife is very concerned about fuel economy she keeps a log book on fuel purchase and MPG. She doesn't even trust the fuel gauge she is more prone to trust the trip meter.

The higher the gear, the lower the RPMs, that's how it saves fuel. However, that only works under cruise or light acceleration.

I've found that Hyundai transmissions are slow to downshift into a lower gear when trying to accelerate and usually require you to open the throttle more to get it into the lower gear for better acceleration. So I now make it a practice to open the throttle more at first to get that downshift and then back off the throttle to the speed I want to accelerat at. Or you could just put the shifter in the shiftronic mode and force the downshift manually.
