Default Whats the deal with the oil filter?

I just changed my oil and went to change the filter but the filter that is in the engine is 50% larger than the filter the dealer gave me.

Get this, the part number is the same on both filters.

WTF?

Hmmm, does sound suspicious. What part number was in the vehicle to begin with? According to the official Hyundai dealer's oil filter guide, the Veracruz is suppose to take either a 26320-3C100 or -3C250 filter kit, depending on the production date of the vehicle. You can download the guide at http://dcs.hyundaidealer.com/files/r...il_filters.pdf. The production or build date for the car will be posted on the pillar of the drivers door. The -3C100 is the longer of the two filters, but I don't recall it being half again as long as the -3C250.

Yes, there has been some funny business with the cartridge filters the past year. Explosion of part numbers and then consolidation with another set of part numbers before the old, new numbers had a chance to disappear. Maybe that's why they published the guide?

See this thread in the Santa Fe forum. The Santa Fe 3.3 and the Veracruz 3.8 use the same filters:

If you need the longer filter, order part number 26320-3C100 from the dealer.

The date on the pillar is May of 2008. It has a tall filter. Is that a 2009 vehicle? I bought a 2009. Did I take it in the shorts, er what?

Don't worry about production dates.

If the cap looks like this it takes the taller filter (26320-3C100):

If the cap looks like this it takes the shorter filter (26320-3C250):

NovaResource: I think you may have forgotten to add the picture of the 26320-3C250 cap in your last post.

This is interesting information because I traded my 2007 in on a 2010 recently and haven't done an oil change on my 2010 yet. It looks like I'll be using a different filter in the new VC--the shorter 3C250. Does the OEM filter include the rubber o-rings or do they need to be purchased under separate part numbers? (I ran after-market filters in the 2007, which came with the o-rings, but I understand that there have been some issues reported with the filters and/or o-rings on some after-market filters.) Also, does anyone know if the torque on the 2010 drain bolt is the same as the 2007 (~29 lb-ft)?... Are the drain plugs the same on the VC across all years? Thanks.

The OEM cartridge filters in the new silver box do have the o-ring set and a new aluminum crush washer included.

You're kidding me! *Sigh* My local dealership told me that the crush gaskets were sold separately, so I bought a handful when I purchased the 2010 (#21513-23001). Typical! Thanks for the info, Ken99!

The picture is there. Something must be wrong with your computer.

Anyone else not able to see the 2nd pic in my post above?

Missing here at work (Reynold & Reynolds), no "X" either.

Cursor not change either when swept around the area either.
