2004 barely starts and won't stay running
My '04 had been sitting for about 3 years until last week. I replaced battery and did an oil change. I changed front valve cover gasket and front 3 plugs. At first, it was running pretty rough. I put in a jar of seafoam when I fueled up and drove it for 3 days. It definitly had a miss and wasn't getting great gas mileage but ran better after the adition of the seafoam. I went to make a turn onto the road by my home and it died. I cranked back up but it wouldnt go over 2k rpms. I limped home and it died. I changed the fuel pump itself but not the assembly. It is still doing the same. I can crank it but it won't go over 2-2.5k rpm and it slowly bogs down and dies and dies right away if i let off the accelerator. After it dies, I can smell fuel. I know the fact that it has been setting with a little gas in it was not great for it. I dread trying to tackle getting the intake manifold off. Im sure the back valve cover gasket needs replaced and I have the gasket and the plugs for the back. Im wondering if it is a clogged fuel line or an injector issue? When I replaced the fuel pump, the strainer filter was falling apart and I replaced it. Since that is technicaly the only fuel filter, I'm worried some crap got in the fuel line. Please help!!!!
Did you make sure the fuel pump is getting good power and has a good ground connection?
Many good fuel pumps get replaced because the "Mechanic"failed to verify power and ground were available .
If the vehicle was sitting outside , we don't know if visitors made a home in the air intake system , which provides a safe home for them. Be a good move to check that and make sure there is no restriction for air to get into the engine.
