Need to replace all brake lines. Can't find parts. (2002)
2002 xg350
Originally in New York City car that sat and sat and sat while my dad's eyesight deteriorated. Engine has a legit $47,000 miles on it. Now that it's in Georgia, the rust on the underbelly is causing more than a few issues. It's my son's car now and we currently need to replace all brake lines. Can't seem to find a complete set of preformed brake lines online for sale; only a brake hose. Even my local Pick-a-Part's got nothing. Is the dealership my only hope? Should we just sell the engine? |
Welcome to the world of auto parts replacement.
You do have some choices. You could have a good shop replace the lines. If you were contemplating replacing them yourself, this is what you would need. Places like NAPA sell bendable good quality brake tubing that you can make and install, but you will need some special tools. A tubing cutter A tubing flaring tool A tubing bender tool Sufficient length of the same diameter tubing you will be removing . You usually can reuse the fittings removed from the old tubing. A little practice using the tools and you can make your own lines and install them at your convenience. NO SPLICES You will also need at least a quart of DOT3 brake fluid. Shops that do this all the time have the eqip ,knowledge and experience to do this without too much trouble. Brake work is serious and must be done correctly, but is really no reason to sell the vehicle. The new tubing is soft and easy to form |
