strange howling noise
2002 XG350L
55000 miles
so this has been an otherwise AWESOME car
until today it threw a curve at me i cant figure out.
yesterday i drove it in rainy weather as i have many times before with no probs.
but this morning i go out and start it and a strange LOUD howling noise starts coming out of the passenger
side of the engine in the rear. its not tranny because it revs with the rpms when in nuetral
anyone have a clue as to where i start?
any help appreciated
thanks

Bad belt? Maybe something loosened and the belt is squealing? You're do for a timing belt at 60k anyway, I would get that done and have them replace the accessory belts at the same time.
Its a howling noise
definitely not a belt squeal
and normally when a timing belt goes it justgoes. no howling and there isnormally some early signs in engine performance right? this car runs tip top even with the howling noise
its a low howling noise. i checked for a filter problem and no difference

turns out it was the alternator bearing that was going south.
what a bitch this thing is to replace? has anyone looked at the diagrams?
so i took it to a dealer and $$$$$ later it doesnt howl ....lol
