2001 / 2005 Tire sizes fit??

Hi who ever,

I am new to this so sorry if I screw up.

I have a 2001 Accent GS we call Bumbleberry as it has been pumbled all over by hail and hit by a deer but continues to "ride on" I have a queston about tires,My current accent has a stock tire size of 175/70R13 and I am wondering if I can put on tires and rims from a 2005 accent 4 lug185/75R13? Not much of a difference here but one never knows with tight tolerances etc etc. Bumbleberry is currently out of action due to a severe pass front blow out due to the NH roads. I am going to pull the tire off and inspect for front end damage in a bit.

Have owened a 2001 Elantra bought new and it was a nice car.
My friend has had numerous hyundais starting with a 1987.

thx Den.

RE: 2001 / 2005 Tire sizes fit??

I tried to lookup the circumference or diameter of a 185/75R13 vs a 175/70R13 tire, but couldn't find a manufacturer that presently makes the larger size. Regardless, I doubt the difference is more than 7 or 8 percent (I hand calculate a 5.8 percent difference, but tread depth varies from tire to tire), and to the naked eye, probably won't look any different. Remember that Bumbleberry will be going faster than the speedometer will indicate with the larger tires. The bolt pattern should be the same, but you can measure that to confirm before you buy the rims.

RE: 2001 / 2005 Tire sizes fit??

I did happen to find this web site with tire comparisons and it works pretty good.
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

Thanks ken99 for the info and by the looks of the specs from this web site you areright that the tires are not much different, I am just worried about the inside of the tire hitting the strut assembly. "A speeding bumblberry could be trouble" Thx...

RE: 2001 / 2005 Tire sizes fit??

I checked the measurement between the rear tire sidewall and the rear strut assembly and there is only a 5/8 or 6/8 inch clearance.
The 185/75/13 tire is over 1/2 inch wider than the 175/70/13 tire!
I am afraid they will not fit but not sure?

Stock tire New tire
sidewall 4.8" sidewall 5.5"
Radius 11.3" Radius 12.0"
Diameter 22.6" Diameter 23.9"

I am not as worried about the height.

thx.

A 185 tire is only 10mm (1cm) wider than a 175 tire, not 1/2 inch.

The sidewall is the HEIGHT of the sidewall from the rim to the tread. So a 185/75 tire has a.7" taller sidewall and a 1.4" larger overall diameter than a 175/70 tire.

That height difference will make your speedometer and odometer far off. At an actual 60-mph, you speedometer will only indicate 56.7 mph. That is a 5.36% error. A 185/65-13 woudl be a better tire if you wanted a wider tire.

RE: 2001 / 2005 Tire sizes fit??

Hi, to the Hyundai People who posted to help me out and I THANK YOU,
This is a great site to use and be part of.

Here is the deal, I was worried about these 185/75/13 tires but I went off to get them half way across NH anyway, and wouldn’t you know it when I got there (on top of a small mountain no kidding), They were Factory 175/70/R13 Hankook H406 tires in great condition mounted on Hyundai rims with caps!!!! (the guy had them listed with the wrong size) We loaded them in Moms bad Chariot!! (My wife’s mini van) and hit the road back home.
I did have to drill 2 small holes on the rims mounted in the front for the 2 Phillips screws on the rotors to pop out through, as the rim design is different. The 2001 rims have room for the screws when the rim mounts flush to the rotor, the screws on the 2005 Hyundai rotor must be flush mounted or smaller than the 2001. No problems in the back.
Test drive went great and what a difference. I had Republic Horizon Metric tires on it before these and they are ok but just not as good as the Hankooks.
Thanks All… Hoping to pick up an Elantra GT soon.
