Then check for spark at coil
Check for powers and grounds at coil
See if there is signal from ECM to coil to make spark

To be a little more clearer, how did you check the relays to be sure they are all good and working ?
Also, what kind of scan tool(s) are you using ? Just code reader or quality scan tool?

Sometimes we miss important info and maybe this is one of them.
Your description of coughing could be a clue to a broken or jumped timing belt. The only sure way to know is to remove the cover and check. If you see the belt laying around loosely , it is broken. Let us know what you find, thanks.
