Hyundai Accent/trouble accepting gas
 

My Accent acts as if it is full but it isn 't. It is very frustrating it takes forever to put 3 gallons in it. I have tried moving the gas nosel in several different postions but the gas pumpkeeps clicking off. Any ideas???

This is a 1st for me so Im gonna pass on any answers on this subject..hold on and maybe some one has had thi problem before..

My 2002 Sonata has a similar condition. Sometimes it will allow nozzles to fill without clicking them off and then other times it is necessary to pump the gas in very slowly. Also the check engine light is on for periods of time and then it goes out by itself. Diagnostics tests indicate there is a problem with the fuel cap not being properly tightened, but that is not the problem. No one has repaired it yet and we have been to a few shops.

I will use this as a welcome and a reply. This is my first post, I stumbled upon this forum using Google. I own an '03 Accent GL 4dr auto. It is silver and I use it to deliver pizza. Aside from my Buick, it's my baby. It always gets Royal Purple synthetic oil and K&N Gold Oil filters. The only "performance" add-on is a K&N intake.

On that note, being a pizza delivery driver, I use a lot of gas and I have to fill up often. Beginning this year, it is having problems will filling up at gas stations. It has an 11.9 gal tank, so if the fuel guage shows 1/2 tank, you assume that you can put between4.5 and 6 gallons in it. I set the gas nozzle to the slowest "auto" setting and, after 2 gallons, gas started pouring out of the filler.

I was pretty pissed because 1) I had to stay there and clean it up, whichmade me late for my other job2) I had gas all over my jeans and shoes and 3) gas eats paint, so I had to clean it off, clay bar it, and wax it asap. This has happened two other times, so now I have to get gas either early in the morning or late at night - this is because it has to be very quiet. I have to pump gas as slowly as the pump will let me and I have tolisten carefullyfor fuel to come up the filler neck. That is when I know it's full.

I'm taking it into my local Hyundai dealer (Green Hyundai, Springfield, IL) on Thursday, we'll see what they say. Aside from a few tranny glitches, it's been a very good car. However, I own a '97 Buick Regal GS, an '86 Ford Ranger, and a '92 Ford Escort and have never had this problem with those vehicles.

My thoughts? I think that air builds up in the fuel tank somehow. I don't know iffuel tankshave any sort of air vent. If they do, I don't think this air is vented as the fuel sloshes during driving. I think that the gas coming in the filler neck compounds this problem, pressure builds up in the fuel tank, and it releases the pressure through the filler neck, and out the car.
