mileage and fuel filling

Hello: I have a 2006 Elantra, purchased in October 2006.total mileage is 5500.My gas mileage is very poor, City Average is just above 18 MPG, Freeway at a reasonably steady 70 MPH is 27.5 MPG. Considering the size of the car this is very poor. Its a calculated mileage not from the speedometer. That typically reads about 4 MPG higher. I have a record of all fillups and use the tickets to calculate MPG. I also have difficulty filling the gas tank. It keeps shutting off from a setting and I have to hold the valve open manually at a low fill rate to get gas.

If you have trouble filling the tank, take it to the dealer; you probably have a problem with the evaporative emissions system. It should be under warranty.
