New 2014 Tucson owner but starting to regret it
 

Hi I just bought a used 2014 Tucson with the 2.4L GDI engine but I'm hoping I don't regret it. When I test drove it off the lot there was a slight engine knock but not loud or prominent, so after a few minutes of test driving it became less prominent, but still noticeable to me. I ended up taking the vehicle home. The next morning I started it up again, and again some knocking, but didn't take it out to let it warm up a little longer. I did a little research on this engine knock (yes, after the fact I bought it), and uncovered many nightmare stories about certain models from 2011-2014, particularly Elantras and Santa Fes, where Hyundai had to do a recall for defective manufacturing and replacing all engines, but the Tucson didn't fall under that even though it uses the same engine in several of its models and experiencing the same symptoms. Since I'm the second owner I guess I'm not covered under the remaining of the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty even though it has 84,000 miles. I read in other Hyundai forums and youtube video comments regarding this engine knock to try changing the oil and make sure to use an genuine OEM filter, not aftermaket, and it may help reduce the engine knock, so I'm going to try that. But for now I'm on pins and needles and hope I didn't just purchase I ticking time bomb. :(

Some lots might provide a 30 day warranty which if that is the case go directly to the car lot, don't pass go and see what they have to say.If they knew about the problem with your particular vehicle you may have some recourse
