Sonata 2004

Help!!! I have a 2004 Hyundai Sonata, 4 cyl., manual. This past week my car has been "chiming", doors unlocking and "open door" light on the dash flashing. These things happen on and off, sometimes at the same time, I love being serenaded by the chime. I called Hyundai & because it has 67,000 miles its no longer covered for electrical - great warranty huh? If anybody has any suggestions, or had this problem themselves I would greatly appreciate any advice. We did check all of the fuses & they were fine. Again, any help would be wonderful! Thanks!!

Most other warranties end at 36,000 miles, so yeah, it is a pretty great warranty. Unfortunately for you, a problem cropped up just as it ended.

I would almost guarantee you have a bad door switch or a shorted wire. The door switches are open with doors closed, and make contact to ground when the doors are open. It could be a problem with the switch itself, or with the wiring to the switch. Ifyou have a voltmeter, you can check to see whether the door switches are getting 12 V power. Disconnect the switches and make surethe wires coming to them have12 V. If a switch is not getting 12 V, chances are it is shorted somewhere and you might have to trace it. There should be two 12 V supplies on each front door, the rear doors only have one each. If you don't have a voltmeter, you can buy one at Sears or other retailers, for about $20 or maybe even less. Use the voltmeter in the DC mode.

I hope this helps.

We had that problem with our 2004 and the dealer readjusted the drivers door hinges to make ours stop..Try it your self!
