touring versus Tucson
Here's my dilemma: I was all set to purchase a 5 speed manual Touring SE but they are not to be found. I chose the manual versus the automatic because I need the umph for my journeys in the Vermont hills. I wish that the Touring came in a five or six speed automatic but alas, it does not and I cannot wait for the next generation. SO now I am back to the drawing board. I really wanted a wagon and do like the Jetta Sportwagen TDI but am trepidacious about the cost and the prospective repairs. SO now I am think about the Tucson as an alternative. Anyone out there make the decision to purchase a Tucson versus a wagon?

Have you looked at the Kia Forte 5? It's similar but not identical to the Touring. It has a better 4-cylinder engine and is available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. However, it has slightly less interior space behind the back seats. It's more of a hatchback than a wagon.

I recently bought the 2012 Tucson L and the 2011 Elantra Touring GL both in automatic 2.0 litre. I was worried about their performance, but during the test drive, I've come to realize they both accelerated well. I have since been able to drive them for a few weeks and am confident I made the right choice. My wife loves the Tucson's height advantage and I the Touring's storage. Both run at 8-9 litres per 100 kms and both automatics have the option to switch to lower gears for quick "tire spinning" starts or high torque hill climbs. Great value, great choice. |
