Just wondered how people feel about hyundai as a brand these days? How does everybody like their Hyundai product? Do you think the build quality and long term quality is better than american car brands like GM, Ford and Dodge? Do you think your car will last until 150-200 thousand miles if you take care of it and choose to keep it? My 2006 Tiburon SE I love and I want to keep it for awhile, even past the warranty maybe. Just curious how everybody feels about their cars.

I can't speak about longevity since I only have 12k on my Elantra, but when I sold my Ford Aspire (aka Kia Avella in Korea), it had almost 120k and was still running fine. And mid-90s Kias had a much worse reputation than current Hyundais.

I think the deal is this: As affordably priced (read: low-end) cars, a lot of Hyundais and Kias are bought by people who want a new car but can't really afford one and they don't properly maintain them because of their limited means. The result is a reputation as an unreliable car.

The 100,000 mile *makes* the cars more reliable because for those people who actually buy the car because of the warranty and want to make sure they keep their warranty in effect, they maintain their cars properly. With proper maintenance the cars run longer.

Hey, I have a 98' Tib with 165 000 km, and my husband has a 00' Tib with 200 000km, and they are still are still going strong! We take excellent care of them, and of course have replaced afew parts on them as you would with any car with that many km's on it. But I also got 163 000km on my original breaks, and 170 000km on the 2000. We live in Ontario, and drove all the way to Cape Breton
(Nova Scotia), which was about 7000km(round trip), and the car was loaded with camping stuff! And then about 10 500km to B.C and back, loaded up and pulling a 4X4' trailer. So if your asking if I think Hyundai's are reliable, and can take being drivin hard.... I would say for sure. And yes, they are way better then American made crap, and for what you get for the price, even better then alot of imports. Because unlike Honda ( not that they aren't good cars), Hyundai doesn't sink hundreds of millions of dollars into developing an engine for F1, and I don't think they have won any, but if they have, not many races. Because when you buy a Honda thats what your paying for!

Later,
Stacey
