STruts froze up after Lift
Yes....just happened to me too.
Also mentioned on other forum for Elantra.
Struts are about $70 each side, and a spring compressor is required (info to be found all over the internet).
Dangerous somewhat and for a novice looks like a lot of work.
Yes, my 2001 Elantra went up on a X type lift and the three belts were changed, Power steering, AC and Alt ...etc....
the wheels were "dangling " in the air....and when I left the belt squeeling was fixed.
but I soon noticed a severe hard ride, as if the shocks were solid piece of metal....and thats when I started reading about frozen struts ruined on the lift. The lift used was the type that doesnt support the wheels, X shaped lift that touches the frame only.
(some lifts you drive onto support the wheels and suspension)
I tried bouncing the rear end bumper and no movement hardly at all. hence the aka "frozen struts"
Struts are shot supposedly.

Sucks big time!!! they were fine before I went to the mechanics shop!
I wonder if they'll fix these or is it a sign of old old struts giving out because the struts are so old?
or
are the springs bad too? and should replace them the same time as the struts?
The Spring Compressor tool required is around $55 and the car needs to go up on a solid jack.
If the spring s secure and compressed, it seems like a fairly few quantity of bolts after that, I dont know. Any inputs... anyone?

haha...yes, I wish I could go back and edit some of my posts.
the car is been a rough old workhorse with very little TLC.
115K of very little TLC. But TLC costs money and thats the reason.
Anyway, I wanted to update that the Struts often "work themself back up"..
I was told.
A friend said to drive the car for 50 miles or more and see if they regain the shock absorption. Dont spend any money for awhile works for me!
so we'll see.....
