Physical outer dimensions of tires
 

Is there a link ( or a formula) that would tell be the physical dimensions of 235/60R18 tires and 225/55R17 tires?

I need to store 12 tires ( set of four for 3 cars) and am looking at horizontal sheds

The Rubbermaid ones looked perfect, but I dont think its deep enough to store 12 side by sid as its only 2 feet deep. Of course I could store them one behind the other in rows.. but then it migh not be wide enough. Largest shed has inside Dimensions: 4'3"w x 2'd x 3'6"h

Anyway, can I calculate or look up the physical dimensiions? If not, a measuring tape will of course work as well!

235/60R18 is approx 29.1" in diameter and 9.3" wide

225/55R17 is approx 26.8" in diameter and 8.9" wide.

A shed that is 4'3" (51") wide x 2' (24") deep x 3'6" (42") high won't work because the smallest tire in diameter is 26.8" in diameter. So at only 24" deep, the tires won't fit. You need a shed that is at least 2'6" (30") deep.

Thanks very much. That will help. Where did you find the info?? The only other size I neeed outer dimansion for is 195/65 R15 .

For my R17 tires. I managed to squeeze them in side-by-side, to another shed ( 25" deep), (and put a row on the R15s above it), but it was clearly too tight and had some buldging. 18" tires would never fit.

There are many orientations one can imaginr ( stacked vertivsl vs side-by side, vs one-behind-the-other, but still, its a lot of cubic feet to store!

As I have one shed now, I thought iI would get another jsut for the tires, but I see thats not going to work....but ..between the twe sheds, I should be able to make this work. Still better than paying the tire dealer $300++ a year to store them.

I think the best solution to to buy or build tire racks, and just cover them with a suitable weather proof cover ( canvas?)

Ideally I want one that would be two rows, holding 6 tires each....something loke the middle two pics. I have the width but dont want this thing towering to high ( hard to use, hard to install, hard to hide)
