Got a 2000 Hyundai Elantra sedan gls, was wondering what my options are, i probably have a few blown gaskets in my engine, do they make mounts for a tiburon 2.7 to fit in this make and model? Or should i find a smashed elantra and swap? What are the best options with these cars?

Let a friend use my car, worked fine untill he changed the oil and kept putting water in the radiator. My Thermostat was rusted and gunk was flowing out of my overflow. He put water so i immagine the water he put in froze and i had a spark plug and cable fry. So i can immagine the pressure built up with the frozen thermostat must have blown a gasket and put a bunch of gunk in my pistons. Not sure if oil is there but when i tested the 3rd spark plug a flame came up. maybe there is oil comming to the top of my ports. I would take this apart and clean it but will that solve my problem or am i just looking at a boatload of work. Changed my fuel filter and gunk was comming all out of it. This car just had a tune up 20,000 miles ago and drove from florida to NJ and 10,000 of the miles were city miles. Has a recent oil leak also, i immagine the engine is more work than what its worth at this point. i would like some imput from everyone please. I love my car. and i have a garage full of tools.

 

New motor is the way to go. There's plenty around, especially since you live near NYC

sweet! these are all compatible? with these options i may want to ask if with some of these scrap cars i can scrap also some extra parts i need.

Don't even think about the 2.7 V6.

First you have the issue of fitting it in the car, then worry if the trans is the same. Is the suspension heavy enough for the additional weight? Are the axles the same?

But the real problems occur when you try to match up the electronics. Will the ECM work? How about the BCM or the TCM? Are the wiring harnesses the same? Where does this green stripe wire go?

Nope, you can't just switch engines like you used to. In the old days you just had to match the engine with the bellhousing, and you were good to go.

Just get a stock engine, you know that will work. If you really want more power, get a turbo kit from eBay or someplace. Then you preserve the good MPG of the 2.0L with the power of a turbo.

Also, I have only listed the engines for year 2000. A 1999 or a 2001 will also fit the same. For more info, see the listings on car-part.com.

 

Another thing...

The 2.7L is a completely different engine, not made in 2000. The V6 from 2000 is a 2.5L, and didn't really have much more horsepower than the 2.4L. So probably the trans is completely different, along with the axles and the electronics, from a 2000 Elantra.

Like I said, consider a turbo.

And yes, the 2.0L engines from Elantra and Tiburon from 1999 to 2001 are all the same.
