2003 Santa Fe 3.5 ltr eng
Hi, my 03 SF will not start after setting overnight in the driveway. On initial effort to start it spun over well and fired a few times but just would not run. I've tried it several times since over the past few days and I get similar results. It will initially fire a couple of times and then nothing. I keep thinking fuel pump but if the fuel pump is not working it should not fire at all,,,,correct??. Or could it be firing a couple times from evap fumes from the gas tank coming through the evap system??? Will an evap canister purge solenoid breakdown shut down the fuel pump???? A couple times it did want to act up while driving after stopping at traffic signals. It surge up and down but would level out and work ok most times but shut down occasionally and I would have to restart. Currently it will not start but spins over good and fires intermittently but will not run. I haven't read the DTC codes since I cannot get it to Advance or Auto Zone. Thanks for any help...

Go to Advanced or Auto Zone and get a loaner fuel pump tester. Electronics, Cars, Fashion, Collectibles, Coupons and More | eBay search item 390394571957 This will show you what it looks like. The schrader valve is on the fuel rail just back of the engine you should have around 39psi.
A lot of times the crankshaft position sensor will go bad and cause these types of problems.
