2001 Sonata Headlights Reversed
i have a 2001 sonata with the all in one style headlight assembly. each assembly contains two headlight bulbs and a signal light. while driving down the highway at night with my lights set to low beams i am constantly being flashed by oncoming drivers who believe i have my high beams on. what i have found is the following. on my car the day time running lights are the upper of the two bulbs. when i turn on the headlights and set them to low beams it is the only the lower bulbs which are on. this is the exact opposite to what i have seen on other 2001 sonatas. on the other vehicles i have noticed that the daytime running lights are the lower bulbs while the low beams with the lights turned on are the upper bulbs. i am the third owner of the car so at some point the setup has become the reverse of what it should be. do you have any suggestions on what steps i can take to switch it back to the proper setup. my dealership seems to be stumped by it, or they simply do not wish to fix it.
The high and low beam bulbs are both H7 type bulbs. That means the wiring harness connector is the same for the high beam and low beam set. I think all you have to do is disconnect the wiring harness from the bulbs on each side and reverse them. You may wish to remove the headlight bucket to get a better view of the connectors.
