After Market Replacement Key
Hi,
My wife's key for her i30 2009 hatchback has broken. It's a common problem for the 'flip' keys/fob's.
I purchased a replacement from ebay, and took it to a key cutter today.
Instead of cutting a replacement, he took the broken key, and somehow fixed it into where the new key's blank was in the replacement FOB key.
He said that is will not start the car as he did not replace the electrics and chip - my choice, I wanted to try the cheapest option I could due to financial issues at the moment, as I was told elsewhere, and by the key-cutter guy, that if I held the old fob next to the ignition it MAY work due to proximity. Well, no surprises it doesn't. The car's ignition will not kick over.
My next option is to pay him $150 AUD to replace the whole lot inc electronics and chip. This is still cheaper than the $400AUD I was quoted elsewhere, but still an expense I cannot afford within this (monthly) pay cycle, and need it fixed before next cycle.
Any suggestions for another option? We only purchased the car a little while ago, and we have had nothing but problems with all the little things that our mechanic didn't check/pick up on pre-purchase inspection.
Thanks,
Matt
