car radio static
I have a 2006 Elantra that I purchased new, it had so much static when trying to listen to AM radio that I couldn't use it. Took it back under warranty and the service dept. replaced it twice, for exactly the same result, out of frustration I purchased an after market radio at my own cost thinking the Hyundai radios were rubbish. Same result, the static, whistling and wheezing remains the same, so it is obviously the car and not the radio, with the engine off it is fine, turning on the engine or any other electrical device (lights, mirrors etc) it goes haywire, does anybody have a solution please???
[align=left]You could try installing resistor type spark plugs and make sure the radio is properly grounded. Better yet, you could just not listen to AM radio.

Since the problem has persisted, start looking at a failed antenna lead to the radio first, and repair or replace it if it even looks a bit shakey.
Next, see if you are running resistor-core spark plugs.
Next on the list is clean & reconnect every ground you can find in the engine compartment, and add a ground lead between the hood & the chassis.
If none of the above, it's time to go with the old-fashioned condensers on the alternator, heater blower motor, etc...
