One of the doors (trunklid or hood) is not fully closed.

Make sure the switches on the doors/trunk/hood are aligned correctly.

Do this: open a window then closethe doors and lock with the remote. Reach in to manually unlock the door with the open window. If the alarm goes off it's arming but not flashing. If the alarm doesn't go off the system is not arming.

If the lights are flashing on unlock but not on lock, the alarm isn't setting because it thinks a door (or hood or trunk) is open. One of the doors/hood/trunk switches isn't telling the computer all the doors are closed.

Like I said already, go get the switches looked at.

If that was the case, wouldn't an open door/trunk warning be lit on the instrument panel? Maybe not if it's the hood switch, that may be the first one to check. Well darn I answered my own question. :>

Yes, unless it's the hood.

What car? You never told us.

It's usually located near the passenger side strut tower.

Water probably got in the switch without the protective boot. The dealer may only have the exact part, but you can easily find something close and improvise. You'll just have to wire it yourself if the connector doesn't match up.
Or just cut the connector off, toss the switch, hardwire it and forget it. I've never needed a switch to tell me if my hood was open before now anyway.

Let us know what you do to fix it.

The switch is not to let you know the hood it open, it's to trigger the alarm if somebody opens the hood to steal the battery or do something else.

Don't toss the switch. Check it first and if it's faulty, replace it with a new one from the dealer.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I've never had an alarm until now. Sorry for the bad advice.
