is there a way to be sure it's definately my fuel pump making the noise ? I don't want to replace it and still have the noise. Also how much does one cost and does the engine/gearbox warranty cover this?

I guess you could crawl under the car by the gas tank and listen while someone removes the fuel pump fuse. Engine will quit in a few seconds but you should be able to tell if the noise is from the pump.

  1. I'm talking about the high pressure pump on top of the engine not the tank pump.

You didn't say it was a diesel??

Warranty should cover it but you need to ask the place where you bought the car.
