Timing Belt Question for Xg-350L
I have a 2003 XG-350L with 66,000 miles on it. From what I understand its time to do the timing belt. I really dont want to spring for that right now if I dont have to. If I wait, and it goes will I do irreparable harm to my engine (V6) or will it not matter and the cost will be the same whether I do it now or wait until it goes on its own....Thanks for any input...Mike

Also, the timing belt drives the water pump on this engine (Delta V6). It's usually a good ldea to replace the pump with this belt change. If the pump siezes at a later date, it will take out the belt and the results are the same.

I was hoping that engine damage if I didnt have the belt replaced was not going to be part of the answer but I had a feeling that was wishful thinking. What peeves me about this is I believe this shouldnt fall under any catagori that might call it Maintence. This is an awfully expensive job at 5 to 700 easy with the pump here in NY. OH well and Thanks for your quick reply on this matter.
Replacing parts that wear is part of maintenance. That goes with owning a car. Parts don't last forever and things need to be replaced. Brake pads, spark plugs, engine fluids, tires, and even drive belts.
