Default transmission problems

My 2002 Accent GL is having trouble switching gears. As I try to accelerate, the car goes really slowly then suddenly "lurches" into the new gear. When I brake, as it is about to come to a complete stop, it often "lurches" forward again. Also, it drops down in speed big time when going up a hill. I will press on the accelorator but it still goes slow. Any suggestions?

this is probably a daft question but have you checked the oil level in the transmission? remember to check it when in neutral not park!

I would agree with Flave 1. Check the level of the tranny fluid. It probably wouldn't hurt to have the tranny fluid flushed along with the filter changed.
Good Luck,
Brant

I would have it scanned and ck the 2 speed sensors and ck the trans fluid temp sensor. maybe there are some trans codes there. The shifting is controlled by a computer.
