Tuscon Anti-Theft Advice
I have a 2017 Tucson and had the immobilizer software upgrade. My car insurance has gone up and i was looking for quotes, however, State Farm would not insure the Tucson. I sent in proof of the software installation and I was told there is another modification I needed. In December 2023, Hyundai introduced an anti-theft solution for vehicles not eligible for the software upgrade which consist of an ignition cylinder protector which includes a locking bracket to protect vehicles without push-button ignitions and immobilizing anti-theft devices (per the Hyundai Release). Although my Tucson was eligible and has the software update, will the other modification fit my Tucson? Cost? My dealer was clueless and Hyundai corporate will not respond to my emails.SaveShare

Hello! It sounds like your situation with the Tucson and the extra anti-theft protection is a bit frustrating, especially since neither the dealer nor Hyundai is giving you clear answers. Since your Tucson already got the immobilizer software upgrade, that physical ignition protector they’re talking about is probably more for vehicles that couldn’t get the software upgrade. However, it might still fit your Tucson, but since it wasn’t specifically designed for models like yours, it’s hard to say for sure. As for the cost, these types of parts usually run between $100 and $300, including labor, but you’d need to check with a mechanic or a dealership that knows what they’re doing. If Hyundai corporate isn’t answering your emails, you might need to try calling them directly or even filing a complaint to get a response.
