Default 1999 Hyundai Excel ( australia ) engine query

Hi everyone.
i dont have alot of know how when it comes to engines and not even sure if this is the right set of forums. yet here i go.
iv got a 1999 excel x3 hatch and am wondering what engine types i can get into it of rougly the same size. i was hoping to get a boxster engine of some sort. i know its probly more viable to just get a better car but im considering my excel as a see what i can do project car. any help or information is already greatly appreciated.
