Default Accent shifter solonoid / airbag connection?

Hello out there, my son tried to argue right of way with tree, tree won!. Any way, after replacing the core support fenders airbags etc. it is put together. But I can't get the shifter to go out of park. They had punched the key when it was towed. So the question is.... Does that lock have to be in there to make it work, or is there some sort of limp mode thing that because the bags were deployed that it won't let you drive? My generic manual doesn't go into the airbags at all. Is there an inertial switch that has to be replaced after the bags go off?

Thanks Wim

1) at airbag deployment, the airbag, airbag harness and the airbag computer MUST BE REPLACED. If this was not done, then the system MIGHT/WILL not work next time if needed.
2) the ignition must be on for a solenoid to release the G-lever out of "P"
3) did a Hyundai shop do the repair ??? if not, then have the car checked over by a Hyundai dealer (the insurance MUST cover it)
