Can't get engine out (accent)

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to swap 1.5L 12 valve engine on my 1998Hyundai Accent. The engine is on the hoist and as far as I can tell is ready to go out.
It is actually separated from the transmission (automatic) by about 1/2" you can actually see the flywheel. But the crankshaft pulley hits on the body.
Do I need to take this pulley out?. Do I have to loose the transmission?
Thanks in advance.

I have taken out other engines on the past, but Chevy's 350 on rear wheel drive cars. But this is the first time on a transverse front wheel drive.

Thanks in advance

Jaime

yes. 99% of teh time with transverse motors you have to remove teh trans. ^_^ i did it on my mk3 jetta, with a 2x4 and a 99 cent strap wrench. it is the proper way to do it. ofcourse. there is always that 1%... that usually ends up breaking something.

I'm not that familiar with the 98 Accent, but most engines on newer front wheel drive cars are dropped out the bottom with the tranny attached on a sub-frame. Once the half-axles are removed and the wiring and cables are disconnected, it usually only takes the removal of four bolts and the subframe can be lowered on jacks or with a hoist. Taking the engine out the top may be the hard way to go.

all you have to do is remove the crank and water pump pulley. don't loosen trans mounts.
